Weekend Plans

baby

Well it's that time of year again and we're getting ready to go to the annual Star-B-Q. It's a weekend long camping trip in which members of the Calgary Astronomy Society get together to star gaze. There will be a huge pig roast as well. We will be leaving on Friday and coming back on Monday. Ethan will be joining us as well. He is very excited to get to stay up late and look at "neblias".

We finally booked the furnace people to come and move our ductwork. They come on Tuesday which means that because I get Monday off plus I need to take Tuesday off, I get a very long weekend! Yah!

Today I am officially in my third trimester. I have to say, my stomach is starting to feel tight and I think I'm starting to really look pregnant. However one might think I'm in my 4th month instead of my 7th. Here's some info about the baby.

This week your baby tips the scales at 1.1 kg (2.4 lbs) and she's about 35 cm (15.75 in) long from head to toe. Over the last four weeks, she has practically doubled in weight. She's becoming plumper and rounder.
Around this point in your baby's development, her brain tissue begins to increase and its signature folds and grooves begin to take shape on its surface.
The hair on your baby's head is growing longer and her eyebrows and eyelashes may be present now as well.

Seychelles or Bust!

Many years ago I (Bob) saw a travel program on T.V. about the Seychelles -- a group of islands near the Equator in the Indian Ocean. For some reason these islands always stuck with me. I always said that before I die, I need to visit this place.

A lady where I work is soon leaving for a year-long sabbatical in the Seychelles. Her husband has taken a two-year position at a helicopter company there, and she is basically tending to the house. As well, she has invited her family, friends, and co-workers to visit and enjoy free accomodations.

So, I mentioned this to Nadia, and she also recalled my distant dream of visiting this exotic island. We talked, and talked some more, crunched some numbers, Nadia showed me pretty pictures on the Internet, and we finally purchased our plane tickets this week.

We will be travelling to the Seychelles in March 2007 for a total of nine days (13 days including air travel). In case you're wondering, the grandparents have already committed to babysitting the newborn (he or she will be six months old), and Ethan will likely stay with his mother. This holiday is just for the two of us.

Here's a sample of what is waiting for us...

My baby sister is in South America

My wonderful sister Lauren is presently in South America "finding herself". She's doing this all by herself so it's kind of a big deal. I got this sweet wonderful little e-mail from her. I thought I would share it with everyone.

Hey thanks for mentioning that your baby sister is in SA on your blog. That was really touching. I guess you didnt have time, too busy talking about your pasta sauce, I understand;)

Isn't she just the bestest sister in the world? As per her request I've decided to add her blog to my links page. It is available for everyone to enjoy. Oh, and here is a picture of my beloved sis. Revenge is a bitch, isn't it Lauren?

Monday, Monday

baby

I've been having a few problems with Blooger this past week. I updated it on Wednesday but it never got published until now. You can read below.

The weekend went well. I got some much needed cleaning done and I made some pasta sauce for the freezer. It's so nice to come home and have homemade sauce to eat instead of trying to find something to make.

Bob is feeling a little under the weather. I hope he doesn't give it to me. I find now that I'm pregnant, I'm more susceptible to colds. I'm not in the mood for a head cold. He helped the neighbours dig post holes for the fence. He said it helped to be working with two huge bobsleders. (one of which won the silver in the two man race this Olympics). Boy that guy is big!

We went to see X-Men 3. It was really good. I really liked it! Next to see is Superman.

I started looking at wallpaper for the nursery. Wallpaper is a whole other area I havn't got into. I must say wallpaper has come a long way. There are so many beautiful designs out there.

The baby is doing well. Lots and lots of kicks. I either have a soccer player or a boxer. I'm sure the baby's Godfather is hoping for a soccer playing boy!

I did have a dream it was a girl. I've read some articles about how a mother's dream is usually acurate with detecting the sex of the baby. I'm carrying really, really low and am still barely showing. I should enjoy this while it lasts.

Have a good week everyone!

Hump Day

Another Wednesday is here. Time is just flying by. The baby ticker says I have 113 days to go. I can't believe it! I feel so unprepared. I supposed I still have time left. I'm just starting to get the anxious jitters and I'm afraid I'll forget something and I'll be stuck in the middle of the night with a crying baby and the missing product. To which I'll have to wake Bob up from his slumber and send him to the 24 hr pharmacy. I suppose this is what alot of new mom's are scared of. Luckly my mom lives just down the street and can offer maternal support at the drop of a hat.

The basement has slowed down a bit. We are in the process of getting quotes on the cost of moving the furnace vents to the floor and adding some cold air intakes. We have a final quote on Friday and then we'll make a decision. Hopefully it will get completed soon. Next will be framing the walls followed by the electrical going in. At that point I think realistically we will be finished for the time being. We'll have to divert our attention to the nursery.
Needless to say all this has added some anxiety as well. I think I'll feel better once the nursery starts to take shape.
On the other hand I still look like I'm about 3 months pregnant. People at work are so surprised to hear that I'm expecting. Gosh! word must be getting around that I'm just getting fat! I'm having more back pain and I find I'm slowing down a bit and that I'm out of breath but everything else is going really well. Apparently I'm expected to put on a pound a week this month. Ya, we'll see about that!

WOW! What a Day!

We just wrapped up a great 24 hours with Ethan and his cousin, Kiera. Kiera and her Mom, Aunt Jackie, arrived Friday night in Calgary. The two kids played until their belated bedtime at 10:00 PM.

Saturday morning we all enjoyed wathing Ethan and Kiera participate in the kids wall climbing open session at the Calgary Climbing Centre. Here are a couple pictures of their efforts.
After climbing, Nadia and I took the kids to Calaway Park, where Nadia discovered the first serious drawback to being pregnant -- she couldn't go on any rides. Believe it or not, even the Ferris Wheel is off limits. However, Nadia chose to look the other way when walking past the sign. Enjoy these photos from our exciting day.
